In all past articles in our magazines, it was mentioned that no information was available or could be found about the Club’s history before World War II.
The Heritage Committee is pleased to inform you that with the support of the Singapore Library, Singapore Archives, Registry of Deeds and old members, quite a lot of information has surfaced about that time.
We now have an almost complete list of Presidents and other Committee members covering the period 1908-1942.
The men who presided until 1942 were:
J.C. Koopman, J.W. van de Stadt, L.C.M. van Eendenburgh,
A.M.F. Brinkman, Ernst Straatemeier, W. Van Rooyen,
G.A. Breyer, P. Marks, F.J. Witt, J.T Van Rossum,
R.M. Bar von Hemmersweil, B.S. van Deinse
Another important item that was found is a picture of our first owned clubhouse at Cairnhill Road as well as the building plan. The first known address of the club, however was located at Grange Road 52, most likely the premises of one of the founding members and first President; Mr. Jacob Christiaan Koopman. |
The premises at Cairnhill Road was bought by 10 Dutch men, whom are all mentioned on the conveyance document dated July 3rd, 1911 that was found at the Singapore Archive. Through research at the Singapore Library the company they worked for could also be found out for most of them.
